Ams AG (ams AG) today announced the AS5172A/B magnetic position sensor with dual-line PSI5 interface for fast and safe transmission of accurate rotational position measurement data.
The new AS5172A and AS5172B system-on-chip (SoC) are 360-degree non-contact rotary magnetic position sensors that provide 14-bit high resolution absolute angle measurements. According to the automotive safety standard ISO26262, these two sensors were developed as SEooC devices and feature a wide range of on-chip self-diagnostic systems. This makes the AS5172A/B an ideal choice for automotive applications where safety is critical, helping automotive systems meet the highest levels of ASIL safety requirements.
In addition, the PSI5 interface in the AS5172A / B component complies with the latest PSI 5 standards 1.3 and 2.1.
AEC-Q100 certified, the AS5172A/B can support many automotive remote position sensing applications, including brake and accelerator pedal position sensing, throttle and throttle, steering angle sensors, chassis suspension height sensors, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves. And oil level measurement system.
Using Hall sensing technology, the AS5172A/B is capable of measuring magnetic flux density in a circumferentially distributed sensor array and compensating for the effects of external stray magnetic fields, providing a robust 14-bit (0.022° accuracy) sensor array and simulation The front-end centered robust structure compensates for external stray magnetic fields. The AS5172A/B can also be programmed to support a full motion range as low as 0-10° to provide the best resolution for the application.
The high-sensitivity Hall sensor front end also uses small, low-cost magnets and supports a wide magnetic field input range of 10-90mT. Simply a simple two-pole magnet that rotates around the center of the package provides information on the absolute angular position of the magnet almost simultaneously. The magnet can be placed above or below the device.
The AS5172A/B operates over a wide voltage range of 4V to 16.5V and supports overvoltage protection up to +20V. In addition, the power pins are protected against reverse polarity up to -18V. The AS5172A/B can also be easily programmed with a single-wire UART connection to the PSI5 interface via the VDD pin on the device, reducing the number of pins on the application programming connector.
The AS5172 is available in two packages, the TSSOP14 package (AS5172B) and the SIP package (AS5172A). The SIP package (system package) integrates AS5172 sensor wafers and decoupling capacitors to improve ESD and EMC performance, eliminating the need for PCBs and helping to reduce overall system cost. The AS5172A is capable of operating over the -40°C to 125°C temperature range and the AS5172B is capable of operation from -40°C to 150°C.
The AS5172A/B magnetic position sensor is now in volume production. The evaluation board for the AS5172A/B is available at Amers Semiconductor's online store.
